Stony Brook University announced that all classes for Friday, February 26 are canceled due to the “ongoing adverse weather conditions.” The winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service yesterday remains in effect until 6 A.M. Saturday.
The university announced the cancellation of classes until 11 A.M. earlier in the day on Friday through the SB Alert system. The class cancellations apply to all Stony Brook campuses and the Health Science Center
The storm system that has brought the Stony Brook area flooding rains on Thursday was expected to change over to moderate snowfall late Thursday night. The warning says to expect one to three inches of snow accumulation on the ground by the morning hours on Friday. The heaviest snow will occurring during the day on Friday, and total storm accumulations will reach upwards of seven to 12 inches.
Strong winds are also expected throughout the day, which may cause blowing and drifting snow.
Other closures, delays, and notes from around campus as of 12:30 P.M. include:
- The bookstore will open today at 11 A.M.
- Campus Dining has announced that all dining halls will be running on alternative hours due to the weather; hours can be found here.
- All SINC sites, with the exception of the Main Library Site, are closed. The North and Central Reading Room Sites will be closing at 2 P.M.
- The university bus system is running on a Service Level C schedule. Southampton and Research & Development routes are also canceled.
- All meeting room and tabling events in the Student Activities Center and the Union are cancelled
- The Confucious Institute at Stony Brook has cancelled the China Dance Troupe performance for tonight
- Tonight’s Stony Brook Football banquet has been cancelled
- The Stony Brook University Dental Care Clinic operations will be cancelled starting at 1:00 P.M. Operations will resume on Monday, March 1.
- The Staller Center has postponed the two movies to be shown tonight until Friday, March 5.
- The Pocket Theatre Fashion show has been canceled.
