Stony Brook University workers discovered dozens of dead fish in Roth Pond on March 4. The cause of death is pending investigation. According to a university worker cleaning out the pond, the fish were rumored to have frozen to death within the last week. Many students reported a foul odor in the quad on Thursday morning before the fish were discovered.

Stony Brook University announced that all classes for Friday, February 26 are canceled due to the "ongoing adverse weather conditions." The winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service yesterday remains in effect until 6 A.M. Saturday.

The stadium parking lot is full of football fans, tailgaters and the scent of hot dogs on a grill. But sizzling meat may not be the only source of the greasy, charred smell. In the back of the lot stands a bus that runs on vegetable oil.

A cross section of the Stony Brook campus community filled the Student Activity Center ballroom Monday afternoon as professors, students and administrators absorbed former Stony Brook University President John Marburger's lecture on global warming.

Earthstock 2009 kicked off Friday afternoon, with a festival featuring a gallery of environmentally-friendly cars, animal exhibits and more. The academic mall was filled with students and families taking advantage of the day’s weather.

Some Stony Brook students are trying to turn a new leaf in campus SINC sites by saving leaves of paper. Stony Brook’s environmental club has been trying to get a double-sided printing default implemented in all SINC sites. Between 715 and 740 students signed a Facebook petition last semester to have double-sided paper as the printing standard, according to Justin Grimm-Greenblatt, president of the club.

"Compelling" evidence has been found in a new study that global warming is, in fact, both real and caused by humans.
The study was conducted by scientists at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California-San Diego, and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's Program for Climate Model Diagnosis and Intercomparison (PCMDI).
