Town Hall Meeting

President Shirley Strum Kenny confirmed late Wednesday night that she plans to retire in June 2009.

Stony Brook University will be receiving $45 million from the state for the construction of a building to house a law school at Stony Brook. This information came out of an interview with President Shirley Strum Kenny last week, who said that the university has received the funds in its capital budget from the state budget.

Flood 1

Building C in West Apartments started flooding around three suites on the first floor at the back entrance tonight at approximately 10:45 p.m. Residents said they called maintenance, who deemed the situation an emergency, but did not show until an hour later.

According to Newsday (we're pretty short of reporters and time as finals loom) Simona Grabocka, 19, of Ridgewood, Queens was hit by a car this morning crossing the street in front of Roosevelt Quad.

Male Exposing Himself
On the evening of September 14th, a male student exposed himself to a female staff person in the hallway of Irving College, according to University Police. The male had a towel around his midsection, she could see his bare behind, and he was touching himself in front of her. She decided not to press charges against him, and he was referred to Student Affairs.

Robbery On Campus
On the early morning of Sept. 2nd, there was a robbery on campus. A student walking towards Eisenhower College noticed that he was being followed by four males while walking on John S. Toll Drive. They appeared to come from the Stadium side of the Student Union building.

A tragic accident claimed the life of Stony Brook University undergraduate Christopher Samaria, 22, from Queens yesterday, in the aftermath of the violent storm which hit our area on Sunday evening.

Window Kicked
On the afternoon of May 23rd, an argry student meant to kick a wall in the Faculty Student Association room in the Student Union. However, that student missed the wall and kicked and broke a window instead. The student was referred to Student Affairs and will pay for the damage.

Property Damaged
On the morning of May 7th, it was discovered in the lobby of Whitman College that a window was smashed and a water fountain was pulled from the wall. The residence hall director was on the scene when University Police arrived.

Money Budgeted For Southampton College Purchase
$30 million was included in the New York State 2005-2006 budget on April 18 for SUNY to purchase Southampton College. An additional $5 million was budgeted to improve Southampton’s sewage system.

Shoplifting Attempt In Kelly Cafe
One male was allegedly shoplifting in the Kelly Cafe in the evening of April 27th. He fled when approached by employees. All the cafe items were recovered at the scene when University Police arrived.

Racial Slur Written on Library Books
A racial slur was written on several books on a shelf on the second floor of the Melville Library. The incident was reported to University Police on the afternoon of March 29.

Beer Thieves In Area
On the early morning of March 18th, two males stole two cases of beer from the 7-11 store that is next to Stony Brook University. The Suffolk County Police Department requested assistance from the University Police to find the suspects.

Harassment Charge
In the early morning of March 10th, in Hand College, a female and two males were involved in a dispute. Because one of the people involved accused another of harassment, the case was referred to Student Affairs.
