Miguel Maysonet has been named the Choice Hotels’ Big South Football Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Lafayette last week.
Maysonet’s four touchdowns tied a Stony Brook, Big South Conference and LaValle Stadium record. Maysonet is one of four players in school history to score four touchdowns, but he is the only Seawolf that has done it in a game twice. He did so last year in week nine against Charleston Southern.
In Stony Brook’s 37-20 win over Lafayette, Maysonet rushed 22 times for a career-high 194 yards and four rushing touchdowns and accounted for all of the Seawolves’ second half scores.
The junior running back has won the award three times since joining Stony Brook in 2010. Maysonet was named the offensive player of the week when he rushed for 193 yards and three touchdowns in Stony Brook’s victory at Coastal Carolina in week eight of the 2010 season.
In week nine of last season, he shared the honor with Liberty quarterback Mike Brown. In Stony Brook’s win over Charleston Southern, Maysonet rushed for 158 yards and three scores, and caught two passes for 37 yards and a touchdown.
Maysonet was not the only Seawolves player to be recognized for his individual performance last week as Stony Brook safety Dan Mulrooney was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week for his eight total tackles, a forced fumble, one fumble recovery and an interception.
Stony Brook placekicker Wesley Skiffington was awarded the Special Teams Player of the Week. He made all seven of his placekicks and was 3-of-3 on his field goals attempts.
Stony Brook football returns to action on October 8 in their first Big South conference home game of the season against Presbyterian.
