Cartoon Body Count

Some members of the Independent have started a site to track the number of deaths caused directly and indirectly by the editorial cartoon controversy.

We have not even yet gone deeply into studying news reports and the count has reached at least 27 deaths.  All of the deaths we have seen so far have been in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, but things seem to be escalating every day.  Scores are injured.  Buildings and cars burned, vandalized.

We are tracking this at http://www.cartoonbodycount.com. Just today, 11 died in one incident in Libya.

Protests have also occured closer to home, including one against the Danish mission to the U.N. in New York, though they have not been violent.
