Newsday: Student Hit by Car on Campus

According to Newsday (we're pretty short of reporters and time as finals loom) Simona Grabocka, 19, of Ridgewood, Queens was hit by a car this morning crossing the street in front of Roosevelt Quad.  

Update: Newsday now reports the victim as deceased. 

According to Newsday, the driver of the car told police that glare from the morning sun prevented her from seeing the stopsign.

Circle Drive was closed to traffic around the area of the accident.

Be mindful that in the winter the sun will often be brighter than any other time in the year.  The earth is actually approaching perihelion, the point at which it is closest to the sun and clearer winter skys coupled with the reflectivity of snow could create much more driving conditions than you'd ever see during the summer.

Wow! Looks like someone actually attended their astronomy class and remembered something from it.

Actually, my wonderful Long Island high school education fed me that. I tend to remember paradoxes for some reason.
