Another Power Outage On Campus There was another power outage on campus on the morning of March 26th. It lasted three hours and affected Mendelsohn and H Quads, the Student Union, the Infirmary and the DEC-Sewage Plant. The previous power outage occurred on the morning of March 24th, lasted a half hour and affected Toscanini College and the Clark Center.
Fire Alarm Set Off In the late evening of March 27th, a fire alarm was set off in the Chapin Apartments. It was caused by a candle burning in an unoccupied room. The fire department was notified. A student believed to have been involved in the incident was referred to Student Affairs.
Trespasser Caught On Camera At 4:33 in the morning on March 29, an intrusion alarm was set off in the Student Activities Center. The SAC was closed at the time, and the person who set off the alarm was seen on a video surveillance camera, which was viewed by University Police the next day.
Racial Slur Written on Library Books A racial slur was written on several books on a shelf on the second floor of the Melville Library. The incident was reported to University Police on the afternoon of March 29.
Someone wrote one letter in the back of each journal neatly stacked together next to one another, said David Weiner, head of circulation services. Those letters spelled out the slur: "NIGGERZ." Weiner said he didnĀ't know when those books were defaced or who did it. He added that those letters are currently being cleaned off.
Elevator Shut Down A freight elevator shut down in the Melville Library in the evening of March 29th. Nobody was in this elevator at the time.
