Attempted Robbery Along Route 25A

By Andy Friedman

A female resident student reported to police that on Thursday morning a man attempted to rob her while she and her friend were walking along Route 25A near the Stony Brook University train station.

The attempted robbery reportedly happened around 12:30 a.m. The students had been walking along 25A near the Stony Brook train station when, according to Interim Police Chief Doug Little, a man in a dark hooded sweatshirt “grabbed at the one young lady’s purse, she screamed and he ran.” The perpetrator then ran to the parking lot of Cosmo’s Cafe where he got into a black sedan and drove off. At that point, Little said, “the two young ladies returned to campus and contacted us.”

Police responded to the area of Mendelsohn Quad, where the students, unharmed, met with police.

Suffolk County Police, in conjunction with Stony Brook University Police are encouraging anyone who may have information about the incident to contact them. Calls may also be placed anonymously to the Suffolk County CrimeStoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS or, on campus, at 2-TIPS.
