Seawolves Get First Conference Win Against Vermont
|
By William Lahti The Stony Brook Men's Lacrosse team rebounded from their loss to UMBC and picked up their first conference win of the year against the Vermont Catamounts. The 13-9 victory moved SBU to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in-conference. Stony Brook jumped out to an early lead, with Bobby Trenkle scoring on the first possession of the game. Vermont scored 2 goals over the next 7 minutes, killing a penalty along the way. From there, SB took off and never looked back, scoring 12 of the next 13 goals. Ryan Hughes started it off, in a run that would see 7 Seawolves score. By the end of the first, goals were scored by Owen Adams, Kevin Crowley, Bo Tripodi, and Rhys Duch. The beginning of the second quarter was back-and-forth, with the first goal coming from Vermont's Liam Thomas. Senior Michal Trojanowski countered with a goal for SBU within a minute. As the goal was scored, Vermont drew a penalty for unnecessary roughness. The Seawolves capitalized, with freshman Jordan McBride scoring a goal 20 seconds into the man-up opportunity. Adams then scored the last goal of the half. SBU scored 4 goals in the first 4 minutes of the 3rd quarter, with 2 coming from McBride. After that, Vermont turned the tables. Vermont's Derek Lichtfuss scored 2 goals that quarter, but the Catamounts were still down 13-5. In the 4th, Vermont went on a tear, scoring 4 goals to cut the deficit to 4 with 6:15 to play, with the last goal coming while a man down. However, their run stopped there, and the score would stay at 13-9. SB's next game will be the second of their 2 home conference games. It is against Hartford at 7PM Saturday. |
