SBU Women's Basketball Comeback Bid Comes up Short

By Michael Kelly

On March 1, the Stony Brook women’s basketball team (6-21) lost to the visiting Terriers of Boston University 70-58, after an impressive comeback bid fell short.

The game looked lost halfway through the second half after a 20-6 run by the Terriers to open the second half, ballooning their modest lead of 30-28 at the end of the first half. After the Terriers pushed their lead out to 18 points with a little over nine minutes to play, the Seawolves, led by the freshman duo of Jodie Plikus (8 points) and Kirsten Jeter (9 points), responded with an 18-4 run to cut the lead to 4 with just over two minutes to play.

The Seawolves would eventually fall after jumpers by Cheri Raffo (game-high 25 points) and Kasey Devine (12 points) and solid foul shooting down the stretch by Boston University put the game out of reach.
Dana Ferraro had 13 points for the Seawolves, and Aly Young chipped in with 11. Christine Kinneary added 17 for the Terriers.

The Seawolves next play at Hartford, on March 5.
