SBU Women Drop Game to UMBC

By Michael Kelly

The Stony Brook women’s basketball team lost to UMBC on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 62-49, dropping their record to 6-17. Behind junior guard Chantay Frazier’s 26 points, UMBC took control of the game with a 16-2 run to start the second half and never looked back. UMBC’s sophomore guard Carlee Cassidy chipped in with 18 points.

Stony Brook was paced by freshman foward Kirsten Jeter, who scored 11 of her 15 points in the first half and senior foward Dana Ferraro who scored 10 of her 13 points in the first half.

Stony Brook ended the first half on a high note, with a 5-0 run during the last few moments of the half. After the completion of a three-point play by Jeter, Misha Horsey stole the ball near half court, and assisted Kairsten Nunn's basket right before halftime. The sequence left Stony Brook ahead 30-24 heading into the half.

But the Seawolves left their first half momentum in the locker room. UMBC opened the half with a 16-2 run, and was only briefly challenged. Stony Brook rallied to tighten the score at 45-41 on a Horsey 3-pointer, but soon went cold from the floor again as UMBC heated back up, led by Frazier. UMBC put together a 13-0 run to lead 58-41 and was never seriously challenged again.
