Santana Trade Finalized
|
By Kevin Leto According to ESPN, The New York Mets agreed to a deal with the Minnesota Twins last Tuesday that would send ace Johan Santana to the Big Apple. Outfielder Carlos Gomez and pitchers Philip Humber, Kevin Mulvey, and Deolis Guerra were sent to Minnesota for Santana. The deal was structured so that the Mets could nullify the deal if Santana failed a physical or if they could not sign the All-Star to a long-term contract. On Friday the reports were that the Mets and Santana reached an agreement on a six-year contract extension for 137.5 million dollars. The contract is structured so that either party could opt out of the contract before the 2014 season. The last condition of the trade was met on Sunday when Santana passed a physical examination. With this, Santana is officially a New York Met. The players’ response to Santana joining the club has been optimistic as they are hoping to put last year’s historic collapse behind them. |
