An attempted armed robbery was reported on Tuesday at 12:30 a.m. when two people entered a suite during a card game at Eisenhower College in Kelly Quad. According to a press release and statements made by the University Police, there were no injuries and no property was taken.

Douglas Little, Assistant Chief of Police at Stony Brook, said that university detectives have been working to identify the intruders and that they have some strong leads. He said student witnesses have been a huge help by providing information like the license plate number and type of car the suspect was driving. "We're hoping for a quick closure," Little said. "We're very concerned about the safety and welfare of all of our students."

Little said that about six or seven students were playing a card game
in the suite when two people walked into the unlocked room. An intruder demanded cash from the residents, under the apparent assumption they were playing cards for money. Little said they were not, and added that a third accomplice was reported to have been waiting outside in a car.

According to University Police, the suspect took an object, hit one of the residents over the head with it, and then ran. Little said the victim could not identify the object and refused medical treatment after being hit. Although the object has been rumored to be a gun, University Police are uncertain. Little said it could have been a plastic gun.

Little said the University Police encourages any students with more information on the incident to call 632-3333. Little said the amount of support from the campus community has greatly contributed to detectives' leads on the incident.
