Attempted Robbery in Kelly Quad

An attempted robbery occurred early today in Kelly Quad at 12:30 AM. An e-mail has been sent out to the campus body. There are no injuries.

"The e-mail has been sent out now and it's under investigation," said State University Police Officer V. Collela.

"Today at 12:30 a.m. there was a report of an attempted robbery at
Eisenhower College. There were no injuries and no property was
taken. This matter is actively being investigated by campus and
Suffolk County police. There are strong leads.

We take this incident very seriously as the safety and welfare of our
students is our foremost concern. We already have a comprehensive
on-campus security system in place, including card-access-controlled
doors and electronic monitoring of exterior doors in the Residence
Halls, video cameras, and safety patrols. We have also increased the
number of patrols during nighttime and early morning hours.

Students must be alert to any possible entrance by unauthorized
persons. Any suspicious entry to buildings should be reported to
University Police (632-3333).

We encourage anyone with information on the incident to contact Stony
Brook University Police Chief Richard Young (632-3333) as soon as
possible.

Why didn't they use the SB Alert system?

I signed up for it so they can send these urgent messages to my personal email and/or cell phone.

I don't know if this is because I'm an RA or not, but around 2:20am, I received a text message stating (incorrectly?) that there had been a shooting on campus, and that we should stay inside and lock our doors. There was no follow-up information until the eventual campus-wide email.
