My Top Ten Albums of '07

I did this in December. But as always, I get a little distracted.  Enjoy my top ten, in no particular order.

The Rapture - Pieces of the People We Love
Heart and soul giftwrapped in ultra dancey pop fever.

Battles - Mirrored
Battles has come a long way since I first saw them in 2002.  They're still something different but you might be able to handle them a bit better now.  If you're feeling adventurous check out their older stuff.

Justice - Cross
When you've basked in the glory of Justice's white hot cross you'll know for sure this is a winner.  But listening to the album loud enough will show you that there's always more depth to feel in these artfully crafted electronic beats.  It opened my eyes to musical depth in electronic and dance music, which had mostly sounded the same to me until then.

Digitalism - Idealism
This one came out in the shadow of Justice's Cross, but going back to it it's a consistent and good electronic album with a great vocal treatment and thumping bass.

Old Time Relijun - Catharsis in Crisis
Ornate and absolutely crazy at the same time, Old Time Relijun can make anything seem mysterious and generally evokes primal urges to swing ones hips and scream.  Catharsis in Crisis is the third album in a series.  The band has a back-catalog beyond that too so if this album does tickle your fancy more fixin's aren't too far away.

Les Savy Fav - Let's Stay Friends
See them live before you die or they break up.  This album did not disappoint me--a long time fan--and has a lot of great cameos that any hipster would jump for joy over.

Enon
- Grass Geysers... Carbon Clouds
Some bands just know how to make good songs.  Enon has enough musical elements to keep things interesting while delivering a good pop vibe.

Turzi - A
I just found this band the other day.  Apparently, they're French, but the energy in this album could power Paris.

Kinski - Down Below It's Chaos
Can't do this without post-rock, and Kinski does that well.  This album includes some very welcome vocal parts and has just the right amount of repetition.  It's good mood music.

LCD Soundsystem
- Sound of Silver
In terms of impact, I think this album changed the scene the most this year.  Suddenly people who were only marginally into dancey music found a gateway from indie to funk.  I wouldn't necessarily say they were responsible but the album was definitely a harbinger.

Honorable Mentions:
Simian Mobile Disco - Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release
Boys Noize - Oi Oi Oi
Devendra Banhart - Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon
