Romual Out, Replacements in for Two Weeks
|
By George Agathos Romual Jean-Baptiste, president of the Undergraduate Student Government, lost his job today after the USG Supreme Court agreed unanimously that he committed "wrongful acts of substance" as charged by the USG Senate in their impeachment proceedings. The charges were centered around an incident involving offensive campaign fliers during the USG elections. The trial on April 23 would have also heard the case of Michael Cohan, accused Jean-Baptiste's accused co-conspirator who was pictured in evidence presented to the court possibly carrying the fliers and dropping one as he walked through a hallway. According to several senators at the trial, Cohan resigned earlier that day. Along with the still photos from surveillance records, a signed written confession from each of the accused was also presented to the court. The evidence had come to light as the result of the university's investigation of the incident via the Academic Judiciary. The trial saw arguments from Sen. Robert Romano, who acted as counsel defending Jean-Baptiste, and from Sens. Nathan Shapiro and Ryan O'Connor acting as prosecution. Little new information aside from the actual evidence came to light during the trial. The decision removed Jean-Baptiste from office, leaving Executive Vice President Amy Wisnoski to take his place and appoint people to empty spots behind her. Wisnoski appointed Sen. Shapiro to executive vice president, a position he won in elections and is set to hold after the current government is over. To fill Shaprio's seat in the Senate, Wisnoski appointed Alexander Markow, a frequent stand-in for absent senators this semester. |
