Seawolves Rugby Aspires to New Heights

After winning the Metropolitan Rugby Union Championships and traveling to the North East Championships, the SBU Men’s Rugby Team is ready to turn over a new leaf.  Finishing 6-0 in regular season play and blowing out their opponents with scores like 55-0 against Drew University, the Wolfpack is climbing over a new horizon.  The team is looking to abandon their reputation as a party-only team and let the University know that they are real athletes who are competitive, dedicated and disciplined.

With over 30 full-time players the team is ready to take on the likes of Vassar College, Seton Hall, Rutgers and Columbia.  Sporting brand new red and white jerseys the team has found a new energy and determination to bring the University another undefeated season.  The team has just secured a budget to purchase new equipment including tackling pads and a predator scrum machine.  The team now boasts athletes that have been former stars of Penn State Football and our very own Seawolves football team.

After many years of on and off coaching the Rugby Seawolves have secured the coaching of Daniel Yarusso, Scranton Alumni, Keith Yarsinski, Hofstra Alumni, and Cody Peluso, Stony Brook alumni of 06 to take the team to a new level of aggressive and disciplined play.  With people from Old Blue Rugby Club now helping to coach the team through seminars, the team looks to step their game up yet another level.  Mark Griffin, a USA National Eagle from across the pond (England) has agreed to help the team on a monthly basis.  For a team like Stony Brook to secure the help and advisement of a 20 year veteran rugby player, who has played numerous times on the national team is an accomplishment all in its self.

As always, the team is looking for players of all skill levels.  From expert to novice and everything in between, get ready for a tenacious and action packed season.  For questions regarding anything Stony Brook Rugby related, please contact team President John Gemma at (845)-625-7931.  He handles all recruitment for all new players.  Do not be afraid to take off the pads and dive into a new sport!

Well it looks like this is their season, looking forward to hear good news about them, this is a hell of a team. I am not a heavy supporter but in this case I will make an exception, I hope I'll get the chance to buy some rugby tickets for this season, it would worth the effort.
