Eight years ago, Michael Bloomberg emerged onto the political landscape, promising to be the anti-politician. His assent to the mayoral post was marked by promises of bringing a no-nonsense business mentality to City Hall, one that would cut through the red tape and politics as usual that had marred city government for so long. Through his present efforts to remain mayor for another term through legislative fiat, however, Bloomberg’s true colors have shown. |

As a lifelong New York Knicks fan, I never thought that hearing the legendary Marv Albert uttering these words would bring back fond memories for me: “Ewing for Smith…Smith…Smith…stripped!...Smith stopped….Smith stopped again by Pippen!” And yet, after a dismally boring NBA Finals, that's exactly how this basketball fan feels. |

Mayor Bloomberg has a seemingly bold new plan to combat pollution and make New York City a much more environmentally-friendly city: congestion pricing. Congestion would be reduced, air pollution would drop, and the city would make money which would allegedly be used for improvements to public transportation. It certainly sounds like a win-win proposition for all New Yorkers, right? Wrong. |

While waiting for University President Shirley Strum Kenny to enter the room last week for the first of what we in student media hope to be many meetings with her, a friend of mine from the Press asked why I didn't have a pen or tape recorder with me.
