Flood 1

Building C in West Apartments started flooding around three suites on the first floor at the back entrance tonight at approximately 10:45 p.m. Residents said they called maintenance, who deemed the situation an emergency, but did not show until an hour later.

A town hall meeting was called by President Kenny to discuss security measures in the shadow of the Virginia Tech tragedy.

Blackout

At around 9 p.m. Sunday night, power went out in the West Apartments, Schomburg, Kelly, Tabler, and Roth quads with sources indicating that flooding from heavy rain might be responsible.

Picture of Larry Elmore

At my trip to I-Con this year, I visited with one of my favorite artists, Larry Elmore. Larry is an industry giant in the fantasy publishing industry, and his work includes but is not limited to the best-selling Dragonlance and Dungeons & Dragons lines published by Wizards of the Coast.

The food selection at the Stony Brook Union will get a new flavor this coming summer. The End of the Bridge restaurant will get a facelift and a Starbucks will be added to the location.

“Due to the legal policies of Islamic Republic of Iran, access to this website is denied…”

For the Persian internet users whose numbers are growing every day, this critical message is very well known and familiar.
Freezing rain
Information from Stony Brook's website and emergency phone service 632-SNOW has indicated that classes have been canceled for the remainder of the day, beginning at 2 p.m.
The most passionate debate in student government this semester took place September 10, just before the USG Senate decided by a razor thin, one vote margin to continue a controversial elections practice. The Independent invited Nathan Shapiro and Amy Wisnoski to present the arguments for their rival legislation.
As a news addict, I often turn on the TV or go on the net in order to hear the latest about the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and elsewhere, and of the most recent skirmishes in the "War on Terror."

Although the constant drizzle perhaps weakened the returning reception for the defending America East champions in the home opener, the Stony Brook Seawolves would pick up where they left off and defeat the Iona Blue Devils 2-0. The lineup for Stony Brook saw a few changes.

The current Seawolves squad would defeat the Alumni by the score of 3-0, with all goals coming in the first half on the beautiful night at LaValle Stadium. Assistant coach Dariel Collazo would play the role of the head referee. It was a night not to be forgotten as the defending 2005 America East champions felt their championship rings for the first time.

Terraced Staller Plaza
The sun was setting on Stony Brook University on a recent Monday, but the two Students still decided to stay out and throw the old pigskin, around. The football went from one end of the field to the other. On a good throw it spiraled as if shot from a rifle. On a bad throw it traveled end over end like a hand grenade. There were far more grenades than bullets.
The end of the semester is a difficult time for most students. They have to deal with the stress of taking finals. Finals week can feel like one of the longest weeks of the year, with many students not getting enough sleep, trying to cram every last bit of information into their brains. Some students may know the information but because they are so stressed, they are unable to focus when the exam finally comes along. Everybody wants to do well on their finals. It is usually a student’s last chance to show their teachers that they deserve to pass their class. It is important that students know how to survive finals week intact by taking things step by step.
The day began like any other for David Lee, a freshman at the time. He turned off his alarm clock, jumped off the top bunk and hopped in the shower. When he returned to his room, he realized that this day was not like any other at all. His room had been burglarized.
LIU and SUNY Sign on It
Administrators and politicians convened in rural Southampton today to announce and publicly sign a final $35 million deal for SUNY to purchase LIU's Southampton campus.
Stony Brook University President Shirley Strum Kenny said with a glowing smile that she expects there to be a "soft" start to academic programs at the campus.
