I-CON
This weekend, I-CON, Stony Brook University's staple science fiction convention, will take place for the last consecutive time on Stony Brook's campus. |
Fear not, nerd watchers, we have tons more material we collected this weekend. Except now we actually need the time to go through it. We have: Interviews with Mythbusters Tory Belleci and Kari Byron |
So if you recall I went to a Furry panel on the first night of ICON and they sorta told me what's up. But the next day I had done my homework and looked up some some references I heard mentioned (and wrote my first blog about it), and I managed to bump into one of them from the panel elsewhere on campus. |
Online cartoonist (and Snakes on a Plane pre-popularizer) Jeffrey Rowland is the author of several webcomics, including When I Grow Up, Wigu and the quasi-autobiographical Overcompensating. Also, if you like buying T-shirts, Jeffrey Rowland has got some T-Shirts for you, my friend. |
At my trip to I-Con this year, I visited with one of my favorite artists, Larry Elmore. Larry is an industry giant in the fantasy publishing industry, and his work includes but is not limited to the best-selling Dragonlance and Dungeons & Dragons lines published by Wizards of the Coast. |
So I walked in on this panel about how Furries control the media. Contrary to popular belief, there was no animal copulation-- though I did leave early. Turns out that furries are just a character concept. Sure, some might emulate the sex scene in the Island of Dr. Moreau, but that is not part of the base of furry dogma, at least according to the people at the panel. |
So apparently people like to dress up for I-CON. We're taking pictures. That is, George Agathos, Matt Willemain, and Chris Lonardo. |
